How to rest your eyes during long screen sessions
A practical guide to offscreen eye breaks: the 20-20-20 reminder, looking into the distance, and why an animation cannot replace looking away.
Make it an actual offscreen pause
Looking at a calm animation is still looking at a screen. If you want an eye break, turn your gaze away from the device; the visual scenes below are optional attention breaks, not eye treatments.
Use a distance reminder
Use the 20-20-20 reminder: about every 20 minutes, look around 20 feet (6 metres) away for 20 seconds.
Choose a longer pause if you want one
For a longer pause, start the work break timer and step away. Its finish message appears on the page when you return.
Separate visual calm from eye rest
Cloud Drift is a quiet animation for attention. It does not change the distance between your eyes and the screen, so watching it should not replace looking away. Choose it for a visual pause only when that is what you want.
Make returning easier
Before you resume, adjust text size if you have been leaning in to read and reduce distracting glare where possible. Persistent discomfort deserves professional advice rather than a longer session with an animation.
